Material

Material:   * Artist Acrylics 37ml tubes of each of the following colours: - Yellow ochre n°106 - Quinacridone magenta n°326 - Titanium white n°118 - Permanent primary yellow n°356 - Cosmos blue n°310 * 1 bottle of Matt Medium 75ml * 1 box of 6 soft charcoals * 1 Cotton canvas stretcher 55x46cm (10F) * 1 pastel fixative, pastel and charcoal, 200ml * 3 white bristle brushes: - 1 round brush n°10 - 2 flat brushes n°14 and n°6

Step 1

Step 1: Sketch an interior scene with a charcoal and fix your drawing with the fixative.

Step 2

Step 2: Using the flat brush, paint the background with the yellow ochre colour diluted with matt medium.

Step 3

Step 3: With a mix of yellow ochre and a hint of titanium white, paint the lit portion of the wall. Paint the window with cosmos blue diluted with matt medium. Then, to create the reflection in the window, retouch with cosmos blue and a hint of titanium white. Again with the titanium white, paint the light in the window.

Step 4

Step 4: Paint the floor lamp with the blue and a hint of white for the highlights. Then paint the illuminated part of the couch with primary yellow mixed with white. For the floor, mix blue, magenta, and yellow ochre to obtain a slightly brown colour. For the shadow of the couch and the figure, use the same mix as for the floor but with a little more blue. Afterwards, paint the windowsill with white, and for the shadow of the window frame, mix small amounts of titanium white, blue and a touch of ochre. Finally, for the lamps' cord, retouch with blue.

Step 5

Step 5: Mix magenta with a small amount of Mat Medium to paint the entire couch. Once the paint on the couch is dry, go over the lighted part of the couch with a mix of magenta and a touch of white. To create the shadows of the couch, use a mixture of magenta and a hint of blue.

Step 6

Step 6: Paint the figure's pants with the blue and, with a touch of white, go over the illuminated part of the pants. Paint the shirt with pure white.

Step 7

Step 7: With a light touch of blue create the shadows on the shirt. For the face, use a small mixture of magenta, primary yellow and white to obtain a light colour. For the hair, use ochre then return with blue to get some shading on the hair. Paint the shoes with blue.

Step 8

Step 8: Go over small details such as the top of the baseboards, the electrical outlet, and accentuate the shadows if necessary to complete your work.
