LABELING OF DANGEROUS MATERIALS
Every package of hazardous formulations must be legibly and permanently labeled with the following information: Trade name or designation of the formulation Name, complete mailing address and telephone number of party, responsible for placing it on the market Name, or, substance (s) present in the formulation Symbols and indications of potential danger Specific risk phrases (limited to 6) Advice (limited to 6) Nominal quantity
Hazard Symbols
Xn: Harmful and Xi: Irritating. The Cross of St. Andrew, is on the labels of products belonging to categories with Harmful Risk or Irritant. Certain products can cause temporary damage (irritant) or temporary (harmful) by inhalation, skin contact or ingestion. Avoid breathing these vapors, use these products in well ventilated areas, wear gloves and wash hands thoroughly with soap after use.
F + F: Highly flammable and extremely flammableThis symbol appears on products that are easily or extremely flammable (such as solvent-based varnish in bottles or cans). It is forbidden to smoke during the application of these products, which should only be used in well ventilated areas. C: corrosive For products that could cause chemical burns. Gloves and safety glasses must be worn. N: Toxic Environment For products that may have long-term, adverse effects on the environment. Indication of danger detectable by touch It is a raised brail triangle provided for the non-sighted to inform them of hazardous products. This symbol is transparent.

Labeling of non-dangerous preparations
Every package of non-dangerous formulations are legibly and permanently labeled with the following information: business name or designation of the formulation, name, complete mailing address and telephone number of the party responsible for placing it on the market, nominal quantity.
All toys or products that are clearly intended for children under 14 are subject to the CE marking. The paints bearing the CE marking shall be in conformity with toy standard EN 71 as in the following:
EN 71-1 : Mechanical and physical properties EN 71-2 : 2007 flammability EN 71-3 : Migration of certain elements EN 71-7 : finger painting
All toys that may be dangerous for children under the age of thirty-six months, are to contain a warning "Not suitable for children under the age of thirty-six months" or "not suitable for children under three years" and the graphic symbol for EN 71-6. For small toys, such information may be given on the package label or package insert. In the latter case, the words "information to be retained" is added.
Green Point It is provided with EU Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste. In France, the green dot logo on the package of a household product, means that the producer of the product adheres to the recycle system for packaging and therefore complies with the requirements of the Environmental Code. This contribution will fund the organization for this waste in the municipalities.
Metrological sign "e" With a size: ≥ 3 mm high, adding this letter means that the amount indicated has been carefully controlled, by the professional during manufacturing.
ACMI = Art & Creative Materials Institute It is the international association of manufacturers of products for Art and Leisure, founded in 1936. It is responsible for ensuring compliance of labeling products according to U.S. rules and regulations (hazardous labeling function standard, ASTM D 4236, and Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials Act: LHAM). After reviewing the formulations, and testing the products, they are classified into two categories: - AP (approved product) = not dangerous for children and adults. - CL (caution labeling) = product with certain dangers, whose labeling requires certain statements (flammable, harmful ...).
FFFH Abbreviation of: Fællesrådet for Formnings- og Hobbymaterialer or joint committee for the supply of leisure and creative art. It is an organization that ranks Danish paints into in 4 classes (A, B, C & D) according to their level of dangerousness, and then, it is only for the Scandinavian market.
Products labeled "A" may be used by a child over 3 years.
Products marked "B" may be used by a child over 5 years under the supervision of an adult.
Products marked "C" may be used by a child over 15 years.
Products labeled "D" may be used by an adult.
Colour Index
Registry Classification of dyes developed in 1925 by the Society of Dyers and Colourists and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourist. Each dye is represented by two sets of letters and two sets of figures:
1 or 2 letters:
P = pigment •AC = acid dye •CB = basic dye •DC = dye tank •DR = direct dye •FC = food colouring •CR = reactive dye •CS = dye solvent •N = natural pigment dye solvent
1 or 2 letters:
•B = Blue •Bk = Black •Br = Brown •G = Green •M = Metal •O = Orange•R = Red •V = Violet •W = White •Y = Yellow
1-3 figures: the serial number of registration of various dyes. 5 figures called "constitution": characterizing chemical formulas. Examples:
P B 15:3 n° 74160 = phthalocyanine blue pigment (here,the No. 3, β-type, unmodifitedP Y 41 n° 77588 = Naples yellow pigment (lead antimonate) P M 2 n° 77400 = copper metallic pigment (as well copper as brass ...) N Y 3 n° 75300 = Curcumin, the colouring principle of natural curcuma.
Lightfastness
Adapted from ASTM D 5067, classification of colours for Artists is defined as follows:
I or ***: very lightfast II or **: lightfast III or *: low lightfast
Opacity
Opaque hue: completely obscures the visibility of the lower layer.Semi-transparent hue: allowing partial visibility of the lower layer.Transparent hue: allowing complete visibility of the lower layer.
VOC
Volatile Organic Compounds: Any organic compound (usually a solvent) with an initial boiling point of less than 250 ° C - for the European Union. Concentration of VOCs: VOC mass in grams / liter (g / l) in the ready-to-use product. In the European Union, there is a ban on the sale of products with a higher VOC limit for different categories of products - starting January 1, 2010.
